Yosemite National Park May 2005

Because Lisel and I spent our Honeymoon hiking in the National Parks of southern Utah, it was only fitting that we spent our first anniversary hiking / camping in Yosemite National Park.  The northern entrance to the park on Highway 120 is approximately a two hour drive down Highway 49 from our house in Cameron Park.  We left early on Sunday in order to get in a full day of hiking.  After a short stop in Groveland to eat lunch at the local Mexican restaurant we headed for the park entrance.  Originally, we intended to spend Sunday hiking in the park and camping along the Merced River outside the southern entrance because we were unable to obtain a reservation online for any of the campgrounds in Yosemite Valley.  However, when we entered the park at Oak Bottom, we immediately stopped at the ranger station to check any last minute campground availability.  To our surprise, we were managed to get spot "69" in the North Pines Campground in Yosemite Valley.  Score!

All campgrounds in the valley mandate usage of the provided bear boxes for everything from food to toiletries. Although we were hoping to encounter a bear or three, we were not fortunate enough to see one.    Below are a sampling of the 300+ pictures taken over the course of two days.
