Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument - May 2004
After a day of hiking in Capital Reef National Park we drove south on Route 12 to Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument. Our intent was to camp at the Calf Creek Recreation Area so that we could get an early start on the Lower Calf Creek trail. Once we got there however, we found not a single empty camp site and were forced to drive a few miles down the road to Petrified State Park. The following morning packed up our camp site and were at the Lower Calf Creek Trail head by 7:00am. The hike to the falls is a beautiful 2.75 mile hike along Calf Creek that winds up and down through a lush meadow.
